Cash for Clunkers gets another $2 Billion--go for it!

Does your car get 18mpg (combined) or less? It's time to get a new car.

The U.S. Goverenment's "Cash for Clunkers" program will give you a refund of $3,500-4,500 if you trade in your clunker (defined as any car that's less than 25 years old and gets 18mpg or less) for a new car that gets at least 22mpg. If you improve your mileage by 10mpg or more, you get the full $4,500.

But here's the rub: With all the publicity, it's kinda hard right now to find out if your care qualifies. www.feueleconomy.gov doesn't list every year's model and mileage changes from year to year. And with so much interest in the program, the site's running pretty slow.

Here's the other rub: The $1 billion dollars allotted to the program was used up in less than a week. Today news came that Congress is likely going to approve another $2 billion, and you can do the math and guess how long that's going to last.

So, if your car qualifies and you're interested, you'd better hustle.

We all need to get serious about saving our natural resources. If we run out, remember that Sheryl Crow told you so...
